Conduct Disorder

Conduct Disorder is a childhood disorder in which the rites of others and societal norms are violated and not followed. There is often physical aggression, destruction of property, theft and deceit, and impairment in daily functioning. Kids diagnosed with Conduct Disorder are often in trouble with the school system for truancy and aggression, and involved with the juvenile justice system. In addition, children with this disorder are more likely to initiate and react with aggression with others. This may include bullying, making threats, and using weapons toward others. Physical aggression has been found in the form of rape, assault, and murder in some cases. Destruction of property can entail fire setting and vandalism.

Symptoms of Conduct Disorder usually develop on a range from mild to severe, and often increase with severity as a child's age increases. Initial symptoms may include shoplifting and violating home rules, such as not doing chores or staying up late. In some adults, this disorder goes away. In others, it leads to much more severe behaviors. Conduct Disorder is additionally more common in males than females. Females diagnosed with disorder do not react as much with outward aggression as males do.
